Every podcast asks for a review to put on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts. I listen on Pocket Casts which as far as i’m aware, only allows me to rate. I plan to write a review, and I’ll be posting them here as well.

Podcast: Reading Glass
Status: Ongoing

Reading Glasses is not a book review show. Instead, Mallory O’Meara and Brea Grant lead a podcast about reading itself; the joys, the technique, and answer questions all about the hobby. They have their own Reading Glasses Reading Challenge, they’ve interviewed authors and people in the reading space, reviewed bookish products, promoted the wonderful things about your public library, talked about the snacks, shown new techniques/addicting excel sheets to help keep track of reading and of course, talk about books.
They definitely have helped me get back into reading. My “To Be Read” list has expanded with every couple episodes. They introduced me to the CAWPILE system which has helped me think about what I’ve read a lot more since I am grading/reviewing elements of it in the system. A bit more critical thinking about the books I’ve read and things to think about when it comes to reading books.
The production value for the show is very enjoyable to hear both in my car and in my headphones. According to Maximum Fun, Britt Robisheaux is their editor and does a wonderful job. Cuts are barely noticeable. I haven’t heard any popping or sharp “s” sounds when listening to the host. They are also leveled in volume. And when there is an unpleasant sound, the hosts do get a small warning to the audience about it.
If I had to get into any Negatives. This is a weekly show with, at time of writing, 420 episodes about reading. There are a few episodes where it feels a bit more lacking in substance. Where it does feel like they may have not had an idea for an episode once or twice and called it in. The only other thing that bothers me, and this is probably just me being an old curmudgeon. When they have a cool advice or fun tip that their active audience has given, they use a slide whistle. Instead of coming off as quirky, and fun. It sounds more cheesy and out of place like a vaudevillian comedy act. It’s just the fact it’s used, not the sound itself that gets me. The editing keeps the sound in check and does not blow out the mic.
Despite those few flaws, which it’s the whistle that bugs me the most, and still is a personal issue. Reading Glasses is one of the shows I queue up the most whenever I see a new episode.
